Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar today said it would not be possible for India to surge ahead of China by developing only a few states.
For the prevailing development model, there has been "island of growth" and no uniform development in the country, Kumar said at a function at the Chandragupta Management Institution here.
He said Bihar had 8.2 per cent population of the country but its contribution to GDP was only 2.93 per cent.

"We want a growth model in which Bihar's contribution to country's GDP should be 8.2 per cent which is equal to its population percentage," he said.
The chief minister said the country witnessed continuous rise and fall in growth rate and this was because of the fact that the growth rate was dependent on a few states.
"Every state should grow equally," he said.
Making a scathing attack on the NDA government, he said "there are 8-10 corporate houses whose wealth has increased by 80-85 crore in the past 12-14 months...They are the persons who are controlling the country's GDP."
Kumar announced to install statues of Chandra Gupta in the Chandra Gupta Management Institution and that of Chanakya in Chankya Law University and Aryabhat in Aryabhat University.
