"What was the need for him (Chavan) to speak and that through the media?" Kumar asked when the newspersons sought his reaction on the Maharashtra Chief Minister's reported comments in which he had accused his Bihar counterpart of indulging in cheap politics over the arrest of a person by the Mumbai police from Bihar.

Kumar said if Chavan had any objection to the letter written by the Bihar DGP to the Mumbai police chief protesting the manner of arrest of the Azad Maidan violence accused Abdul Qadir Ansari from Sitamarhi district, then he should have asked the Mumbai police to give a reply.

"In that case, we would have decided what we should do .... Whether the letter should be written by the chief minister or the DGP," Kumar said.

Chavan had yesterday attacked Kumar by accusing him of indulging in cheap politics over the arrest and said that the visiting police team need not have informed the local police as Bihar was not a foreign place.
