Chief Minister Nitish Kumar today made an aerial survey of flood-affected areas in Bihar and gave necessary instructions to officials for carrying relief and rescue operation in inundated areas.
Kumar undertook his aerial survey in two phases.
In the first phase, he had a look at the flood condition in areas like Vaishali, Gopalganj, Motihari, Bettiah and Chapra affected by Ganga and Gandak rivers, an official statement said here.
In the second phase, he made an aerial survey of flood-hit Bhagalpur, Katihar, Purnea, Araria and Kisanganj where rise in water level in Mahananda, Kankai, Retua, Mechhi and Bakra rivers due to water discharge from Nepal, many areas have been inundated.
Around 25 lakh population was affected by floods in different parts of Bihar.
Later, the CM held a review meeting on flood at Purnea with Chief Secretary Anjani Kumar Singh, Principal Secretary Water Resources Arun Kumar Singh, Energy secretary Pratyay Amrit, Secretary Road Construction Pankaj Kumar, Purnea Commissioner and District Magistrates and Superintendents of Police of the affected districts.
The CM instructed officials to distribute dry ration and cooked food to people reeling under floods.
He said villages, where communication has been snapped, should be approached with boats and with the help of NDRF and SDRF personnel to distribute relief material among the flood-hit people and to distribute halogen tablets for purification of drinking water in these areas.
During the review meeting, Kumar was told that more than 200 relief camps were working in the affected areas, the release said.
The state Disaster Management Department said at least 22 people have died in floods in ten districts of Bihar so far.
