The Madras High Court today granted interim injunction till October 7, 2014 on the strike call given by various labour unions of Neyveli Lignite Corporation Limited, restraining them from proceeding with the strike.

Justice R S Ramanathan, acting on a petition filed by NLC Limited, granted the interim injunction till that date, restraining nine unions from going ahead with the strike.

The unions are demanding regularization of all contract labour as for common seniority and decided to go on strike from September 3, 2014.

NLC contended that the regularization process of contract labour has started and therefore the strike call by the unions was contrary to the Provisions of the ID Act.

NLC said that being a public utility service, they would incur a huge loss because of the strike call and prayed that it be declared as illegal and sought an interim injucnction.
