A day after the state government ruled out the possibility of ceasefire with the outlawed National Liberation Front of Tripura, NLFT ultras kidnapped two locals from Maldakumarpara tribal hamlet near the Chittagong Hill Tract (CHT) of Bangladesh.

A group of seven ultras armed with automatic weapons initially kidnapped three tribals -- identified as Shantijoy Tripura, Manojoy Tripura and Dhanojoy Tripura -- and later freed Dhanojjoy with a ransom notice for release of the two captives yesterday, a police officer said.

Dhanojoy on his return informed the matter to BSF and state police who launched a search operation in the area.

The police officer said the ultras had sneaked into Bangladesh territory easily as there is no barbed wire fencing in the area.

Tripura government on Friday ruled out possibility of ceasefire with NLFT which concluded two rounds of tripartite talks with the state and Central governments.

"Two rounds of talks were concluded in Delhi and Shillong in the last six months and nothing fruitful has come out so far. NLFT has proposed for ceasefire, but the state government made it clear there will be no ceasefire and the security forces will continue to provide security to the citizens," Tripura CM Manik Sarkar said on Friday.
