Press Trust of India Jammu
National Mazdoor Conference (NMC) today urged upon Chief Minister Omar Abdullah to adopt a comprehensive policy to regularise casual labourers and contractual employees in various departments of the state.

"We express grave concern over the inordinate delay in regularizing the services of more than 55,000 casual and seasonal labourers and contractual employees working in the various departments of the state government," NMC President Subash Shastri said.

He urged upon the Chief Minister to adopt a comprehensive policy to give permanent jobs to casual and seasonal adhoc contractual workers employed in various departments of the state government till March 2014.

Shastri said such decision should be effected from Independence Day so that the new regularization policy could become operational from August 1.

Addressing NMC workers' rally at Rani Park here, he appealed to Abdullah and Jammu and Kashmir Finance Minister A R Rather to sympathetically consider the demand of the working class before the enforcement of Model Code of Conduct ahead of state Assembly elections scheduled later this year.
