With an aim to raise Ganga Volunteer Corps, which would be involved in various activities associated with cleaning river Ganga, the National Mission for Clean Ganga (NMCG) and Nehru Yuva Kendra Sangathan (NYKS) today signed an MoU for a period of five years.
NMCG and NYKS signed the MoU in the presence of Union Water Resources Minister Uma Bharti and established a long-term partnership for the involvement of youth in the abatement of pollution and conservation of the river Ganga, the statement said.
The MoU was signed with an objective to involve youth in awareness creation, public outreach activities, afforestation drive for medicinal plants and native tree species, promoting sanitation, construction of toilets in rural and urban areas, educating people on tackling pious refuse entering into the river, removal of floating solid waste, promotion of bio agriculture and clean village, the statement said.

"For this purpose, a volunteer corps will also be established. The volunteers will also work for the cleanliness of Ganga," she said while expressing hope that the MoU will go a long way to create awareness about the importance of sanctity of our rivers.
Taking leverage from the strong network of youths of NYKS across India, National Mission for Clean Ganga seeks its support to implement activities at local level that will encourage public participation and assist in restoring the health of Ganga river, the statement added.
