Services of Heritage Nilgiris Mountain Railwere cancelled for the fifth day today, due to clearing of trees fallen on the track following heavy rains, which were experienced in the area a couple of days ago.

The services of the train, using rack and pinion system to climb the steep gradient, were first cancelled on May seven, between Mettupalayam and Coonoor, following landslip and uprooting of trees on the track between Kallar and Adarley stations.

Though restoration works were carried out on a war footing, more trees were found falling on the track, necessitating suspension of the train between Mettypalayam and Coonoor, railway officials said.

Even as clearing works continued, more trees started falling on the track and the Railways, as a precautionary measure, had to cancel the services between these two stations and in the return direction also, they said.

Clearing works between Kallar and Adarley stations are continuing, they added.
