NMR suspended for two days due to landslip

: The services of the heritage Nilgiri Mountain Railway were cancelled for two days from today, following landslip between Aderley and Hillgrove stations.

The train, which started from Mettupalayam at 7.10 AM, was stopped near Aderley after a tree fell across the track

Three more landslips were noticed till Hilgrove station, forcing cancellation of the service for two days, Railway sources said.

About 130 passengers were either brought back to Mettupalayam by the train or sent to Coonoor by bus, they said.

There was also a landslip near Katteri between Coonoor and Udhgamandalam. However, the debris were cleared and the train continued its journey.
 

Meanwhile the administration declared a holiday for schools in Udhgamandalam, Kotagiri, Coonoor and Kunda areas in Nilgiris district, which have been experiencing moderate to heavy rains since yesterday, official sources said.
