The Goa government today said that there are no plans to create alternate job opportunities for the people affected with the closure of mining industry.
Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar told the State Legislative assembly that "so far no segment is identified for creating alternate job opportunities as mining has not completely closed down in the state".
Parrikar was responding to a question tabled by Leader of Opposition Chandrakant Kavlekar.

The CM added, in reply to another question, that the role of the Goa government was in accordance with the provisions of the Mines and Minerals (Development and Regulation) Act, 1957 while leasing out mines.
Parrikar informed that 44 mining leases are in operation after amalgamation of mining leases.
In reply to a question on compensation to mining-affected truck-owners, he said that the government has not paid any reimbursement to mining affected truck owners.
"The government has notified different schemes for the people affected due to closure of mining," he added.
Following orders of the Supreme Court, the mining of iron ore in Goa was stopped in 2012 owing to illegalities. The ban was lifted in the year 2014.
