No anganwadi building was constructed in last one year: Maneka

No anganwadi centre building was constructed in the last one year, Lok Sabha was informed today.

In a written reply to Rajya Sabha, Women and Child Development Minister Maneka Gandhi, said "No Anganwadi Centre Building (AWC) has been constructed in the last one year. However, 44,709 AWC buildings were sanctioned for construction in 2013-14 in 26 states/UTs, for which first installment of central share was released.

"Second installment was released to 9 states/UTs during 2014-15 and 2015-16, who have submitted utilisation certificate and physical progress report," she said.

During 2015-16, the ministry approved the construction of 29,941 AWC buildings' convergence with MNREGA for 10 states.
 

"As on 31 December last year, 8,15,458 Anganwadis are operating from either government or community-owned buildings...The AWCs are operating as per the norms of the ministry. However, no block-wise data is maintained centrally," she said.
