It was a pleasant surprise for people visiting Rajghat when Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal came to pay homage at Mahatma Gandhi's memorial sans the usual restrictions and security paraphernalia associated with VIPs.

People felt happy that they were not shooed away by security personnel during the "aam visit of a VIP".

When leaders of other parties like Congress and BJP visit Rajghat, "we don't get a chance to spend even a few minutes at the memorial as police keep telling us not to stand here, don't do this and don't do that, don't go here or don't go there," said 62-year-old B M Gupta, who had come from Ghonda.

"Today, there was no barrier between us and our Chief Minister and he came like an aam aadmi," he said.

Yogesh Kardam (39), a resident of Ashok Nagar, expressed happiness for getting a chance to see his new Chief Minister up-close.

"It was like a dream come true for me and my family," he said.

"I am very happy because we had made a plan to visit Rajghat after a long time. Usually people cancel their programme when they come to know that some VIPs are coming and if they even visit they face many difficulties," he said, adding "we had no problem and I thank our CM for making it a normal visit".

Kejriwal was accompanied by nearly 50 supporters.
