State school education department today said rule of no use of motorcycle for commuting for students cannot be tweaked in wake of some schools having a "different view" on the issue.

In view of mishaps involving school students, the authorities had directed school managements to ensure that students do not use motorcycles as part of measures to enhance safety of students and the state school education department had issued a circular in this regard.

Though parents welcomed the move, some school managements had indicated that it might not be practical to implement the rule as it meant deployment of personnel and "micro-level" monitoring.

Reacting to the divided opinion, officials in the department said the rule could not be tweaked just because some schools had a "different view."

The norm was intended to ensure safety of students and was perfectly in tune with the legal framework.

The schools should find ways and means to implement the rule to ensure a mishap-free environment rather than coming up with difficulties in following the rule, officials added.
