Tamil Nadu Agricultural University has advised the farmers to sell bengalgram and sunflower upon harvest, since there was little change for the prices to increase in the near future.
Currently, the bengalgram prices are ruling at Rs 4,000 per quintal at Udumalpet market, where the Domestic and Epxort Market Intelligence Cell in the University carried out an econometric analysis, which revealed that the prices would continue to remain at the same level of Rs 4,000 till the end of this month.
There is all the possibility of the prices to come down to Rs 3,700 to Rs 3,800 from April, it said.
Bengalgram is sown in Oct-November in Tamil Nadu, which produced 5,800 tonnes from 9,800 hectare in 2012-13.
As far as sunflower was concerned, there were little chances for the price to increase from the prevailing Rs 33 per kg and in fact would hover around Rs 32-33 in April-May.
Tamil Nadu produced 24,662 tonnes of sunflower from 13,610 hectare in the last season, with Vellakoil being the major market, the Cell said.
