No complaint about seizure of iron ore last week

Police today said it has not received any complaint and therefore no case registred in connection with seizure of iron ore worth Rs 1 crore from a private land in Jakhapura area in Jajpur district.

A joint raid conducted on Friday by the officials of Forest and Environment department and Steel and Mines department seized the iron ore which was concealed under shallow land and covered under soil.

Samples of the seized iron ore were sent for the test as the raid was conducted under the direction of the Principal Secretary of the Steels, R.K Sharma.

Notably, iron ore was being transported by trucks from Joda mining area in Keonjhar district to Jakhapura railway siding in Jajpur during 2009-10. From the Railway siding the ore was being transported by the train to Paradeep port.
 

When contacted, Jajpur Additional Superintendent of Police P K Sahani said: "No complaint was filed with the police in this connection so far."

About 2,500 metric tonnes of suspected smuggled iron ore was seized from the land, owned by a local BJD leader.

The land owned by Zilla Parishad member and BJD leader Mahendra Dhal was adjacent to Jakhapura railway siding.
