A no-confidence motion brought by Congress and Left Front members in the Malda Zilla Parishad could not be taken up today due to the absence of the members themselves who were demanding it.

Twenty-five Zilla Parishad members who had submitted a memorandum to the divisional commissioner seeking the sacking of seven members (five of the Congress, two of the SP who had recently switched over to TMC) failed to turn up at the stipulated time today following which the additional executive officer cum ADM Moloy Mukhopadhyay announced that the same Zilla Parishad body would be retained.

He also announced that a no-confidence motion would not be allowed to be tabled in the next one year.

In a blow to the Congress, five Congress and two Samajwadi Party members had switched over to Trinamool Congress in August last in the 37-member body.

There was a tussle between the Congress and the TMC on that issue since then.
