At a meet-the-press programme here, party state secretary Pinarayi Vijayan said the murder of Chandrashekharan on May 4 at Vallikkad near Vatakara in Kozhikode may be the handiwork of extremist outfits.

Chandrasekharan, a former party worker, had left the CPI(M) a few years ago.

With Neyyatinkara bypoll round the corner, UDF would be the most benefited from such an incident, he said adding those behind the crime would not be arrested till the bypoll.

This was a blessing in disguise for the UDF as it could divert attention of the people from the government's failures, he charged.

CPI(M) also urged the state government and chief minister Oommen Chandy to make its stand clear on the report submitted by the supreme court appointed High Power committee on the Mullaperiyar dam.

Claiming that the report was against Kerala's interests, Vijayan, however, disagreed with two state ministers for airing their views for and against the role of former supreme court judge K T Thomas, who was part of the committee.
