A district education officer here has put a notice outside his office room urging the visitors and staff not to touch his or any other official's feet.
District inspector of schools Rajendra Prasad Pandey believes it is a wrong tradition and in the name of giving respect, the teachers and staff who visit the office generally touch official's feet here.
Teachers and staff who touch the feet of any official in the office may be punished, he said.
He also said touching of feet also generates a feeling of "intimacy", which is improper in discharging administrative duties.
