To control growing number of accidents, Bidhannagar Police has decided not to allow any goods vehicles in and around its jurisdiction throughout the day till evening.

Under the rule, already put into practice for the last couple of days, goods vehicles of every form including those carrying cargo in and out of the city airport, will not be allowed to ply within the Bidhannagar Police Commissionerate area from 7 AM to 9 PM, a top police officer of the Force told PTI today.

"This is a step taken to control the increasing number of roads accidents in the Bidhannagar Police Commissionerate areas," the officer said.

In most of the cases, it has appeared that the accidents had happened mostly because of erratic driving of goods vehicles, the IPS officer elaborated.

A survey was conducted by the Force before the decision was taken by senior officers of Bidhannagar Police including its Commissioner, Gywanmant Singh.

The decision, however, evoked protest from airlines claiming it would incur a huge losses for them.

"They (vehicles carrying cargo to airport) have to complete their assignment from 9 PM to 7 AM after which goods vehicles will not be allowed inside Bidhannagar city," the officer added.
