Maharashtra Governor K Sankaranarayanan has said that words like 'His Excellency' and 'Mahamahim' may be discontinued while addressing the Governor.

The Governor has formally approved the following changes in protocol practices for implementation with immediate effect: use of words 'His Excellency' and 'Mahamahim' may be discontinued while addressing the Governor during functions and while making correspondence with the Governor.

'Mananiya Rajyapal', or 'Rajyapal Mahoday' or 'Hon'ble Governor' can be used for addressing the Governor.

The traditional greeting of 'Shri' or 'Smt' should precede the name.

'Excellency' will be used only for interaction with foreign dignitaries as is a customary international practice.

"The decision has been taken in conformity with the decision taken by Hon'ble President of India approving new protocol practices in October 2012," a Raj Bhavan release said.
