Finland has said that there are no cases of illegal immigration or human trafficking from India at present, two years after the undocumented visitors from the country to this Scandinavian nation was on the rise.
"At present there are no cases of illegal immigration and human trafficking from India. We have a strict system in place to verify the authenticity of documents submitted by visa and residence permit applicants," Finland's Minister for Foreign Affairs Erkki Tuomioja said.
The Foreign Ministry along with the Finnish Border Guard and immigration service took the initiative to address the problem by sending a border guard to the Finnish mission in New Delhi in 2011, after the illegal immigration from India to Finland was on the rise, and sometimes Finland was used as an entry point to Europe as a whole.
Indian ambassador to Finland Aladiyan Manickam said, "The system is so effective and transparent that it's really tough for any illegal immigrant to enter here. Even if somehow he manages to have an entry he will not be able to survive as the employment rules are stringent."
"No organisation can provide employment to any immigrant without proper visa and residence permits in place. In addition there are frequent surprise checks as well to ensure that there are no defaulters and document forgeries," he said.
