There will only be skill test and no interview for junior-level posts in central government canteens, the Centre said today.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi, in his Independence Day address last year, had stressed on the need for bringing an end to the practice of holding interviews for Group III and IV jobs where personality assessment is not an absolutely necessary requirement.

He had said it will help curb corruption in recruitment and make the exercise more objective and transparent.

"Accordingly, it has been decided that holding of interviews shall be discontinued in all direct recruitment to non-gazetted, non-ministerial Group B and C posts in non-statutory departmental canteens located in central government offices.

"The recruitments to these posts shall be made purely on the basis of written test or skill test by respective ministries taking into consideration job requirement for specific post," an order issued by Department of Personnel and Training (DoPT) said.

There are about 1,352 registered canteens and tiffin rooms functioning in various central government offices across the country.
