The Tamil Nadu government today informed the Madras High Court that PMK founder and his son should not be given security cover as they do not fall under any category by which state provides protection.

In an affidavit filed before a Division Bench, comprising Justice N Paul Vasanthakumar and Justice R Mahadevan, the government submitted that neither PMK founder S Ramadoss nor his son Anbumani fall in any of the categories for persons for whom the security has to be provided.

The affidavit submitted that as a matter of policy, security is provided to those occupying constitutional or other state-related officers, and both the PMK leaders are not holding any such post.

PMK President G K Mani had fielded the petition seeking security cover for the two leaders after the government took a decision that there was no threat perception to the leaders which warrants security.

A single judge had referred the matter to the Division Bench.
