No organisation has approached Aligarh district administration to seek permission for any gathering on December 25, even as authorities said they will clamp prohibitary orders all over the district to maintain peace.

"So far, no organisation has approached us in writing for any permission for any gathering of any sort on December 25," Aligarh District Magistrate Abhishek Prakash told a press conference here today.

He said no illegal gathering would be allowed in any part of the district on December 25 and soon prohibitory orders would be issued.

The DM refused to comment on the issue of religious reconversion saying he do not want to comment on the issue of conversion or reconversion.

"My primary objective is to prevent any situation which would pose a threat to the peace of the state. There should be no compromise on this.

"No gathering which can pose a threat to peace will be allowed at any spot, public or private. Prohibitary orders will be clamped all over the district on a suitable date which would be announced shortly. It has already been enforced in Aligarh city," the DM said.

The Dharam Jagaran Samiti -- a western UP-based Hindutva group, had proposed to hold a reconversion programme on December 25 in the district.

Replying to a question, Prakash said precautionary steps were being taken to maintain peace after reports of people being pressurised (for conversion) in a neighbouring district in a similar situation came.

"I do not wish to name any organisation but anybody who attempts to disturb the peace of the state will be dealt with the strong arm of the law," he said and appealed the citizens and media to help the authorities in ensuring peace and goodwill in the coming few days.

The DM said, barring a few, the citizens of the district were fully cooperating in their efforts to maintain peace.

"We are holding peace committee meetings at all levels including the tehsil and village level. Patrolling by police and other security forces at all sensitive spots including places of worship has been intensified."

The DM also stressed about the presence of adequate force to maintain peace.
