Ruling out any parallel between any real life mystic celluloid character and his female lead in 'Nayika Sangbad', director Bappaditya Bandyopadhyay says his 'heroine' could be more Garbosque.
"There is no way you can draw similarities with her. My actor altogether vanishes from the scene. No way she can be compared with living legend here.. Rather if you have to draw references from the classical film heroines, may be in the mould of Greta Garbo. But again my 'Nayika' Riya Chatterjee is more an actor representing the present generation, and less from the era of 60s and 70s," the Kagozer Nouka director told PTI.
Successful, mystique and yet sinful to some and vitruous to others as projected by different people in different circles she went missing at the height of her fame, Bappaditya told PTI
He was asked if the character bore any resemblance with any legendary actor, now recluse with her popularity remaining undiminished over the ages.
Arunima Ghosh, having portrayed the character, the lead role in the movie, said "After reaching the saturation point there comes a sense of void in every creative individual's mind, this feeling haunts his self. And here lies the similarity between my reel and real life character and the similarity ends here."
"Also like the heroine in late 60s Nayika Sangbad, who literally goes away from the hurly burly of active show biz after ascending the peak and settles down in a remote town to escape from the glare, my character too goes missing after attaining success in every way. That indicates the sense of void haunting everybody in such profession," she said.
To a question, Arunima said "No I hadn't exactly seen anyone like this in my career. But isn't it true that any actor will be loved by someone and again subjected to gossip by somne others in her absence! People in glamour world are used to that."
Denying any similarity with the role of the journalists close to that now recluse idol, actor Samadarshi, who etched out the character of a reporter in pursuit of the missing celeb and picking up threads of her tumultous career, said "The character is fictional to me."
The film will be released on September 27.
