Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit today rejected BJP's allegation that her government was taking a "partisan" approach in carrying out development activities in constituencies represented by the Opposition party.
"My government has been working for the people across the city and has not been taking any partisan approach while carrying out development activities," she said at the Assembly while participating in a short-duration discussion on unauthorised colonies.
Dikshit said the BJP was trying to "mislead" people of the city as elections are approaching.
Earlier, a number of BJP legislators including leader of Opposition V K Malhotra accused the Delhi Government of adopting a "partisan" approach towards areas represented by the party legislators in initiating various infrastructure projects.
"The government is working in a partisan way. The condition of colonies in constituencies represented by the BJP MLAs are poor," said Malhotra.
The Leader of Opposition also slammed the city government for "failing" to facilitate basic infrastructure in the unauthorised colonies.
The government had regularised 895 unauthorised colonies in September last year and various agencies like PWD, Delhi Jal Board and municipal corporations were tasked to put in place all the required infrastructure in the settlements.
The Delhi government had issued provisional regularisation certificates to over 1,639 unauthorised colonies ahead of assembly polls in 2008. The then Dikshit government, while distributing the certificates, had promised to regularise the colonies if Congress came to power for the third term.
After the Congress' defeat in municipal polls in April last year, Dikshit had asked all the departments concerned to expedite the regularisation process. Assembly polls in Delhi are scheduled for November.
Rebutting Malhotra's allegations, Urban Development Minister Arvinder Singh Lovely said government agencies are working sincerely to provide all basic facilities in unauthorised colonies.
"It is baseless to say that government has not spent any money in unauthorized colonies and slums," he said.
He said development works have been carried out in over 1,200 unauthorised colonies.
