Maharashtra PWD Minister Chandrakant Patil today said the government had no plans to increase the levy of toll on large vehicles to compensate for abolishment of toll on light motor vehicles and state transport buses from the midnight of May 31.

The government has announced closure of 12 toll plazas and scrapping of toll for light motor vehicles and state transport buses at 53 toll plazas from May 31.

Patil said the government will not increase toll for large vehicles to compensate for the same.

Talking to reporters, the Minister said the government will try to provide relief to small vehicles at Mumbai entry and exit points.

Similarly, efforts are being made to take a viable decision for Kolhapur toll naka.

He said instead of putting burden of toll on large vehicles, the Government will pay the companies by way of compensation.

The Minister said the PWD Department will construct roads, which cost up to Rs 200 crore.

The government will ensure that smaller vehicles will not require to pay toll in the state. Talks are on with the Centre for not levying toll on national highways.

Patil, who holds the Cooperation Department, also said government has decided to de-control molasses.
