Punjab power utility PSPCL today said that there would be no power cut in the state during the ongoing paddy sowing season.

"There is no proposal to impose power cuts in Punjab during paddy sowing season," Punjab State Power Corporation Ltd CMD, K D Chaudhry told reporters here today.

He said demand for power is likely to go up to 2,200 lakh units per day during the summer season.

In reply to a question, the CMD said the situation in respect of coal stocks at thermal plants including Bathinda and Ropar in the state is satisfactory.

"A request has been made to the central government to augment coal supplies at the private thermal plants --Rajpura and Talwandi Sabo," he said.

He said the PSPCL is supplying 7- 8 hours of electricity per day to tube wells for irrigation purposes.

He further said the state is getting its full share of power from the central pool and other states.

Chaudhry said the storm on last Tuesday night had caused damage to the power transmission system, thus affecting power supply.
