No proposal from J-K govt for schemes under WCD Ministry

Jammu and Kashmir has not sent any new proposal under key schemes of Ministry of Women and Child Development in the recent years, Rajya Sabha was informed today.

Women and Child Development Minister Maneka Sanjay Gandhi said no new proposal in respect of 'STEP' scheme has been received from the state government from 2012-13.

Besides, no new proposal as recommended by the state in respect of schemes Swadhar, Working Women Hostel and UJJAWALA have been received in the past three years, she said.

Replying to supplementaries, Gandhi said the Ministry wrote several letters to the state government for proposals and even made telephone calls, but "we have not received" any.
 

"We will be happy" to give funds to the state, but unless a proposal comes "we can't throw money", she said.

She suggested to the state government to send proposals and said the same would be dealt expeditiously.

Gandhi said a number of schemes has been implemented by her ministry in the country.

However, recommendation from the state governments are required for schemes like Support to Training and Employment Programme for Women (STEP) and financial assistance for construction of Working Women's Hostel.
