Government has no proposal to accommodate observations of Madras High Court of castrating those who are guilty of raping a child, the Rajya Sabha was informed today.

In reply to a written question, Minister of State for Home Haribhai Parathibhai Chaudhary said the government was "aware" of the high court observation on child rapists.

He was replying to a question whether the government proposes to amend existing law to accommodate the proposal of the high court.

Chaudhary, however, said that there is no proposal to amend the provisions of the Indian Penal Code or Criminal Procedure Code to accommodate the stated observations.

Justice N Kirubakaran of the high court had pronounced the judgement on October 16 in which he had asked the Centre to consider castration as punishment for child rapists.
