No proposal to set up Communication University: Jaitley

Says in order to discuss the feasibility of setting up such type of institution along with its proposed structure and mechanism, this ministry has initiated the process to hold the consultations with various stakeholders

The Information and Broadcasting ministry today said there is no proposal as yet to set up a Communication University though it had initiated the process to hold consultations to discuss the feasibility of setting up such an institution and its proposed structure.

"There is no proposal to set up a Communication University, as yet," I&B Minister Arun Jaitley said in a written response to a question in Lok Sabha.

Jaitley, however, said there has been a demand from certain sections of media that a Communication University be set up to meet the growing demands of all types of communication systems.
 
"In order to discuss the feasibility of setting up such type of institution along with its proposed structure and mechanism, this ministry has initiated the process to hold the consultations with various stakeholders. No timeline has been fixed in the matter, so far," Jaitley added.
