Acting State Election Commissioner Alapan Bandopadhyay today said no replling would be held in some booths of Bidhanaar, Asansol and Bally in Howrah municipal corporation as announced earlier by his predecessor S R Upadhyay.

"There will be no repoll tomorrow as my predecessor did not pass any notification. He said it orally and there is no written notification. We do not have the required time to make all the arrangements and notify the candidates," Bandyopadhyay told reporters here.

Asked whether counting in all three municipal bodies will be done on October 9, Bandopadhyay said he needed more time to examine the matter.

Former State Election Commissioner S R Upadhyay, who resigned yesterday in the wake of violence-marred civic polls apparently under pressure from political parties even before counting of votes is taken up, had earlier announced before the media that there would be repoll in some booths on October eight and counting would be taken up a day later.

Bandyopadhyay, also the state's Principal secretary Transport department, joined today as the acting State Election Commissioner.

"My officers are looking at all points of view. I am not in a position to say anything now. I don't visualise any decision on that front without more detailed examination," he said.
