There was no respite from hot and humid conditions for the Delhiites as the mercury continue to remain above 38 degrees Celsius mark today.
As the national capital continue to witness an extended dry patch, the maximum temperature was recorded five degrees Celsius above normal at 38.2 deg C, while the minimum was 27.5 degree Celsius, a notch above normal for this time of the year, Met Department said.
Day temperature in some parts of the city touched the 40 degree Celsius mark while at many places it was recorded at 39 deg C.
In Ayanagar, temperature rose to 40 degree Celsius, a rarity in the month of August. Elsewhere, in Palam it was recorded at 39 deg C while in Ridge Area it was 39.5 deg C.
According to MeT, the day temperature of August 23 was highest in last five years. In 2013, the day temperature on August 23 was recorded at 33 degree Celsius while it was 33 deg C in 2012, 36 deg C in 2011, 31 deg C in 2010 and 35 deg C in 2009.
Yesterday, the maximum temperature had settled at 38 deg C while the minimum was recorded at 26.4 degree Celsius.
Humidity also remained on the higher side which oscillated between 78 and 36 per cent during the day.
There has been an extended dry patch in the national capital leading to scorching weather conditions.
Weatherman has predicted similar weather conditions to prevail in the national capital tomorrow with a mainly clear sky and maximum and minimum temperatures expected to settle around 39 and 28 degree Celsius respectively.
