The Erode Turmeric market has
declared one-day holiday on Tuesday for the Bannariamman annual 'Kundam' (Firewalking) festival.
R.K.V. Ravishankar, President, Erode Turmeric Merchants Association, said the market was already closed for nine days in connection with Erode Mariamman festival and it assembled on Monday, but only 5000 bags had arrived for sale.
The local traders procured 3100 bags.The price improved by Rs 200 a quintal.
Quality Salem Turmeric was sold at Rs 9600 a quintal and superfine variety Rs 10,000 a quintal.
Prices:
New turmeric variety: At the Erode Turmeric Merchants Association Sales yard, the finger variety old turmeric was sold at Rs 5636 to Rs 8518 a quintal while root variety at Rs 5496 to Rs 7599 a quintal.
Salem Turmeric: The finger turmeric was sold at Rs 6331 to Rs 9616 a quintal, root variety Rs 6199 to Rs 7710 a quintal.
At the Regulated Market Committee, the finger turmeric was sold at Rs 7569 to Rs 8677 a quintal, root turmeric at Rs 6639 to Rs 7799 a quintal.
At the Erode Cooperative Marketing Society finger turmeric was sold at Rs 7299 to Rs 8559 a quintal and the root variety at Rs 6865 to Rs 7699 a quintal.
Society finger turmeric fetched Rs 7495 to Rs 8599 a quintal while root turmeric was sold at Rs 6795 to Rs 7615 a quintal at the Gobichettipalayam Agricultural Cooperative Marketing Society.
