"Nobody is expecting early elections," Karat told reporters at the NSCBI Airport here.

Banerjee had yesterday said she would be happy to see UPA-II last its full term, a day after she claimed that she had information that a political party in Delhi had held a meeting to advance the poll to 2013 and asked her party men to be ready for it.

Asked if Banerjee's recent comments on the next Lok Sabha elections were with any purpose, Karat said, "I have no idea."

"Let me clear. The half truth was being reported. I would be happy to see UPA-two last its full term," TMC spoeksman and MP Derek O Brien said quoting Banerjee.

O Brien said, "She said that she had heard this (advancing Lok Sabha poll) issue being discussed in Delhi. Now our statement clarified the position."
