Jharkhand Chief Electoral Officer P K Jajoria today said no political party or leader should flout the Model Code of Conduct in the run up to the Lok Sabha elections.

"No political party or candidate should issue any statement that would flout the Model Code of Conduct," Jajoria said while replying to a query on former Jharkhand Chief Minister Babulal Marandi's allegations of a threat on his life during the general elections in the state.

"We have not received any such information. (Anyway) that statement doesn't come under it (Model Code)," Jajoria added.

As per the Model Code of Conduct, no political party or candidate should involve in any activity which may aggravate existing differences or create mutual hatred or cause tension between different castes and communities - religions or linguistically.

A couple of other guidelines stipulate any criticism of rival political parties should be confined to policies and programme, past record and work and not of private life.
