At the government district hospital, women employees held a candle-light march and prayed for the deceased.

While a peace rally was organised by women activists near the Authority Crossing area, local residents at various places took part in a signature campaign, seeking stern punishment for the perpetrators.

Joining the protests, the student community also sought justice for the victim, and called for immediate measures to ensure safety of women.

"Delhi rape case has exposed the police's claim. Women Are feeling insecure in the capital itself. One can think of the situation in other cities which are worse," said Fahima, a B.Tech first year student.

Students at a private engineering college pledged not to celebrate the new year in protest against the incident, and sought stern punishment for the culprits.
