Filing of nomination papers for 129 municipal bodies, including Ajmer municipal corporation, in Rajasthan for which elections are scheduled to be held on August 17 ended today, an official of State Election Commission (RSEC) said.
According to per primary reports, over 6,000 contestants have filed their nominations in 3,351 wards where nomination began on July 31, a spokesman of state Election Commission (RSEC) said, adding that the exact number of nominations would be known later as data of far flung areas were being tabulated.
Scrutiny of nominations would be held on August 6 and names could be withdrawn till August 8. Allotment of symbols will be done on August 9, he said.

The election for chairperson is scheduled for August 21 and for deputy chairperson on August 22, he added.
As many as 37.12 lakh voters, including 17.77 lakh female electors, would cast votes in 3351 wards of 129 municipal bodies, including Ajmer Municipal Corporation.
For the first time, persons who have at least passed class X examination would be eligible to contest polls as the state government had recently passed an Ordinance to this effect, he said.
Contestants will have to submit an undertaking stating that they have a toilet at their homes with three walls, a door, and roof, according to the ordinance.
They will also submit a proforma saying that none in family goes out for open defecation, the official added.
Congress, BJP, BSP have fielded candidates and alloted party symbols to them.
