Election Commission Legal Advisor S K Mahndiratta today said if any mistake is found in the nomination form or affidavit furnished by a candidate for the ensuing Assembly polls, and that is removed before 3 pm on September 29, the nomination should not be cancelled.

Mahndiratta, while addressing Haryana Election Commission officials on various aspects of the nomination process for the state Assembly elections, said this through a video- conference, according to an official release.

The nomination papers of any candidate should be properly examined before cancellation, and, if any doubt remains concerning the nomination, the benefit of doubt could be given to the candidate, he said.

He held the meeting with Haryana Chief Electoral Officer Shirikant Walgad and District Electoral Officers through the video-conferencing, the release said.

The scrutiny of nomination papers would be carried out on September 29 and candidates would be able to withdraw their candidature by October 1.

A total of 2,304 nominations have been filed for Haryana Assembly elections scheduled to be held on October 15.
