CPI today exuded confidence that a non-Congress, non-BJP dispensation would take over after the next general elections and said there was a need to forge a post-poll alliance on the basis of an alternative policy platform to meet the urgent needs of the people.
"There is no possibility of either the Congress-led UPA or BJP-led NDA coming to power. Some national and regional parties will get more seats," CPI General Secretary S Sudhakar Reddy told a press conference after a two-day meet of the party's National Executive here.
"A formation based on new alternative policy programme may be clinched after the elections. It will have to be based on the principles of secularism, federalism, food security, rights of tribals, against indiscriminate land acquisition and an alternative economic policy platform," he said.

The Lok Sabha elections was also discussed and it was decided to work on tactics to enhance representation of the Left and "forging a programme-based alternative that can pave the way for installation of a non-UPA and non-NDA government".
"To achieve this goal, the CPI will go for state-specific alliances and seat adjustments with regional secular democratic parties," Reddy said.
The meeting also reviewed preparations for a mass picketing of government offices across the country from October 3-5 to press demands like curbing the price rise and inflation, ensuring food security through provision of 35 kg of rice, wheat at Rs 2 a kilo, total stoppage to forceful acquisition of farm land and job oriented development.
