The Delhi High Court today directed civic agencies to file a status report on a petition filed by a JD-U councillor from Govindpuri highlighting the unhygienic condition of public toilets and surroundings in his area.
A bench of Acting Chief Justice B D Ahmed and Justice Vibhu Bakhru called for a status report from South Delhi Municipal Corporation and Delhi Urban Shelter Improvement Board on the status and maintenance of civic amenities by August 1.
The order came on a writ petition filed by Yadav against the Delhi government, Commissioner MCD (South Delhi), Chairman of DUSIB, CEO of Delhi Jal Board and also the Commissioner of Police.

He said there is a serious problem of public toilets in Govindpuri area as these are not even worth entering.
"The stink in the air can be felt even from a distance from these toilets. The real condition of these toilets speaks volume of complete absence of concern for duty on part of the respondents and their concerned officials," the petition said.
Yadav sought direction from the court to immediately start the repair and cleaning work of the toilets to make them usable and to ensure that their proper and regular maintenance in future.
He also said that the park near the public toilets is being used as an open toilet by the jhuggi dwellers and the same be directed to be restored and its boundary walls be raised.
Yadav also said in his petition that various representations made by him before the authorities concerned have failed to bring the desired results.
