Odisha government has issued direction to district authorities to ensure that no plastic tri-colour is used during the Republic Day celebration on January 26, official sources said.

The direction has been issued to collectors, Superintendents of Police and the Revenue Divisional Commissioners (RDCs), they said

A notification issued by the Information and Public Relations (I&PR) department said the state government has asked the officers to adhere to the order of the Orissa High Court and take steps to ensure that not a single national flag made of plastic is displayed on the Independence Day, Republic Day and other important days.

The Orissa High Court had last year maintained that the tri-colours must be made of cotton, wool, silk and paper as per the Indian National Flag Code, 2000.
