Nor'wester hits city

A Nor'wester tonight disrupted

normal life in the city and neighbourhood and affected local train movement but brought respite from the prevailing hot and humid conditions of the past couple of days.

Movement of local trains in Sealdah-Lakxmikantapur, Sealdah-Canning section were affected as tree branches fell on overhead wire at Baruipur station in Sealdah South section and Nimtala Ghat in North section, Eastern Railway sources said.

The gale, accompanied by heavy rains, also temporarily disrupted vehicular traffic movement in Harish Mukherjee Road, Rashbehari Avenue, Judges Court road and elsewhere but work was on to remove the uprooted trees which caused the disruption, Kolkata Police sources said.
 

However, the mercury came down and people had respite from hot and humid conditions for past few days as a result of the Nor'wester, locally known as 'Kalboisakhi.
