Normal life was disrupted here today due to a dawn-to-dusk bandh called by JMM to protest drug peddling in this northern Odisha town.

Shops and commercial establishments downed their shutters while educational institutions, government offices, courts, banks and post offices remained closed during the 12-hour shut-down called by Mayurbhanj district unit of JMM.

Vehicular movement was affected as bus services to several places were snapped. Inter-state trucks plying along the National Highway were stranded as bandh supporters staged road blockades, the police said.

Barring stray incidents, the bandh remained peaceful. Bandh supporters also tried to detain trains at Baripada railway station, they said.

The bandh, supported by Baripada district bar association, was called by JMM accusing the district administration of failing to control increasing drug peddling in Baripada.
