The Ministry of Development of North Eastern Region is trying to take technology to every village in the area, a senior official said today.

Speaking on the second day of 'Destination North East 2017' here, the ministry's Secretary Naveen Verma said that we have a wide choice of technologies, but the question is how to make them available to people.

Dr Swati Basu, Scientific Secretary with the Government of India, appreciated the ministry's use of technologies in all sectors of the region.

The second day of the event saw sessions on the 'Roadmap for Technology Intervention in North East India', Medicinal and Aromatic Plants' and 'Handloom, Apparel and Handicrafts of North East'.

Representatives from IIT Bombay, IIT Roorkee and IIT Delhi, among others, gave presentations on various technologies and how they can change the lives of the people of North East.

Padmapriya Balakrishan, Deputy CEO, National Medicinal Plants Board, Department of AYUSH, said that 75 per cent of medicinal plants in North East come under subsidised products category. However, there is a need to focus on transportation, as the freight charges to transport products from the region are huge.
