After a week of upward trend temperature today dipped in most parts of North India due to partly cloudy sky, giving relief to people from sweltering heat.
In Delhi, mercury settled at 38.6 degree Celsius. Yesterday it was 41.7 deg C.
According to Meteorological department, the dip in temperature was recorded due to partly cloudy sky. Traces of rains were also reported in some areas overnight.

Light to moderate rains lashed parts of Uttar Pradesh during the last 24 hours leading to a drop in mercury.
Day temperature fell markedly in Gorakhpur, Varanasi, Faizabad and Lucknow divisions. It also took a dip in Allahabad, Bareilly, Moradabad and Meerut divisions of the state.
The highest maximum temperature was 44.6 deg C in Banda district.
In Rajasthan, thunderstorm accompanied by rains at some places brought down the day temperature by a few notches.
Parts of Jodhpur and Bikaner divisions got light rains today.
However, heat wave conditions prevailed in some areas of the state. Churu recorded maximum temperature of 43 deg C followed by Kota at 41.8 deg C. Bikaner, Chittorgarh and Ganganagar recorded maximum of 41, 40.6 and 40.4 deg C respectively, according to Met department here.
The department has predicted thunderstorm with light rains at isolated pockets in Northern parts of the state during next 24 hours.
