A humid afternoon marked the return of the hot spell to the national capital, with the maximum temperature touching 41.8 degrees Celsius, three notches above normal and up from yesterday's 40.6 degrees Celsius.
The minimum was recorded at 29.5 degrees Celsius, two degrees above normal.
The Weatherman has predicted a hotter day tomorrow with day temperature likely to touch 43 degrees Celsius. The minimum could be around 30 degrees Celsius.
Although there was a marginal drop in the mercury level in Rajasthan, hot and sultry conditions continued to grip the state.
Churu was the hottest place, recording 44.4 degrees Celsius.
Sriganganagar, Bikaner, Kota and Jaipur recorded 43.6, 42, 41.5, 41 and 44.4 degrees Celsius respectively.
After light and sporadic rains had brought down temperatures in the last couple of days in Punjab, Haryana and Chandigarh, the heat wave returned to the region, with maximum temperatures hovering around 42 degrees Celsius.
In Punjab, Amritsar and Ludhiana recorded maximum temperatures of 42.8 and 42.6 degrees Celsius respectively, while Patiala witnessed a high of 42.3 degrees Celsius.
In Haryana, Ambala sizzled at a maximum of 42 degrees Celsius, while Hisar, Karnal, Rohtak and Narnaul had a high of 42.2 deg C, 41.2 deg C, 42.1 deg C and 42.5 deg C respectively.
Chandigarh also experienced a hot day at 40.6 degrees Celsius.
The MeT in its forecast said dry weather would prevail in Punjab and Haryana over the next two days.
