The capital Delhi recorded a maximum temperature of 42.3 degrees celsius and a minimum of 31.2 degrees celsius. It was a sweaty day for denizens with humidity reaching 53.25 per cent.
Rajasthan remained in the grip of a searing heat wave with Churu at 43.2 degrees. The maximum day temperature in SriGanganagar settled at 41.4 degrees celsius.
Kota and Jaipur recorded highs of 41.1 and 40 degrees respectively, it said.
Punjab and Haryana, however, got some respite as several areas in the two states were drenched by widespread rains overnight.
While Chandigarh received 2.4 mm of rains, Amritsar was drenched by 1.4 mm. Besides, Ludhiana received 0.5 mm of rainfall and Nangal Dam 26.8 mm bringing a decline in the day temperature in the region.
Bhiwani registered the highest temperature with a high of 43.2 degrees celsius. While Rohtak had a high of 42.6 degrees celsius, five notches above normal, the maximum at Narnaul was 42.5 degrees celsius, four notches above normal.
Among other places, Hisar settled at a high of 42 degrees celsius followed by an identical high of 40 degrees celsius at Amritsar, Ludhiana, Patiala and Karnal, three notches above normal at all these places.
Ambala had a high of 39.5 degrees celsius, two notches above normal followed by 38.8 degrees celsius at Cahndigarh, two notches above normal.
