North Delhi Mayor Yogendra Chandolia today met Delhi Lieutenant Governor Najeeb Jung and sought release of money due to the civic body in various sectors from the state government.

During his meet, Chandolia also submitted a letter of representation from the NDMC, enumerating the various sectors and the corresponding due amount from them.

"We had a meeting with the Lt Governor today and we apprised him of our situation, our problems and the amount, about Rs 2,000 crore that is due to us. A sum of about Rs 589 crore is due from the DDA and the rest from the state government. The meet was positive and we hope things will be expedited from here," Chandolia told PTI.

Among the sectors money was due to the corporation from the state government, he said, included 'global shares', compensatory amount of about Rs 900 crore for "loss of property tax", medical, transport and educational sectors among others.

"After introduction of Unit Area Method (UAM) in 2004 as measurement technique, we suffered huge losses in terms of property tax. A compensatory amount of about Rs 900 for the last three years (2012-14) was promised to us, but it hasn't been given so far," he said.

The UAM technique was introduced during the unified MCD before it was trifurctaed in 2012 into three civic bodies -- NDMC, SDMC and EDMC.

Money is also due to NDMC in terms of global share, which is to be given in four installments for the four quarters but no amount has come from that sector too.

"Global shares are a set percentage of the total taxes earned by the state government that is given to the local civic bodies. Earlier we (NDMC) were promised 5.5 per cent global share but now it has been reduced to 4 per cent," a senior NDMC official said.
