An upcoming festival in the capital will seek to establish its "deeper linkages" with the northeastern states and promote tourism there through an array of events including panel discussions, music and dance performances and craft exhibitions.
A football competition also features in the third 'North East Festival', being organised in association with the Delhi government, factoring in the craze for the sport among the youth of the region.
The main festival will be held at the premises of the Indira Gandhi National Centre for the Arts (IGNCA) from October 16 to 18 while Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium is hosting the seven-day football tournament since October 9.

In a statement, Delhi Tourism Minister Kapil Mishra called for deeper linkages between Delhi and northeast saying many future events and festivals have been planned in this regard.
"This year, tourism is the key focus and we are ensuring that we make North-Eastern art, culture and heritage a key part of Delhi's ethos. We are inviting tour operators across Delhi and many foreign tourists are expected," he said.
Around 60 tribal artisans and textile entrepreneurs will showcase some of the best handloom and handicrafts from the region, that comprises of eight states known for their pristine natural beauty.
The highlights of the festival include special sessions on strategic importance of the 'Act East Policy', performances by 40 musical bands, presentation of over 30 dance forms by various tribes, delicacies from the region and fashion shows and an exhibition on freedom fighters from those states.
